Support for Learning Disabilities in Ontario

Pathways for All supports parents who live in Ontario with children and teenagers who have been diagnosed with a learning disability. Learning Disabilities refer to a number of disorders which may affect a child or teenager’s learning.

Learning disabilities range in severity and may interfere with the acquisition and use of one or more of the following:

  • oral language (e.g., listening, speaking, understanding);
  • reading (e.g., decoding, phonetic knowledge, word recognition, comprehension);
  • written language (e.g., spelling and written expression); and
  • mathematics (e.g., computation, problem solving).

In addition, learning disabilities may also impact a person’s organizational skills, social perception and social interactions.

People with learning disabilities can be successful at school and in all other areas of life provided they understand their strengths and weaknesses and can advocate for themselves. Pathways for All provides parents, children and teenagers with an understanding of their specific diagnoses. Strengths and needs are assessed, interventions required for their specific learning disability are identified along with supports available in the school system and community to enhance their learning. Pathways for All provides this support through three services;  Personalized Pathways for Success, Individual and Family Coaching, and Parenting Support

Pathways for All provides a 30 minute consultation to determine which service will be most suitable for your child or teenager.

For success, individuals with learning disabilities require early identification and timely specialized assessments and interventions involving home, school, community and workplace settings. Pathways for All will review, analyze, and interpret the information provided by parents and determine the most effective interventions required for the individual’s specific learning disability subtype. The minimum interventions include:

  • specific skill instruction;
  • accommodations;
  • compensatory strategies; and
  • self-advocacy skills.

Intervention recommendations will be provided for home and school. Home visits may be required to support parents implementing interventions at home.
